Custom Requests 101

Untitled (31)

Fanhouse is one of the only creator platforms that offers custom requests, which allow fans to pick and choose requests for creators to fulfill from a given list of options.

This guide is for creators looking to set up custom requests. If you’re looking for the fan guide, check out How to use Custom Requests (Fan Edition).

How to set up custom requests on the Fanhouse website
  1. Before you get started, verify that you are an unrestricted creator. Locked messages are a restricted feature, which means that you need to have at least five fans in your Fanhouse to unlock this feature. If you feel like you need this restriction lifted sooner, email us at hello@fanhouse.app.

  2. Navigate to your Creator Portal → Requests and messages → Custom requests.

  3. Click the Add Custom Request button to create a new request. Add text (i.e. the description of the request) and the price. You can also take this opportunity to reorder your requests. When you’re done, hit Save.

FAQ

Q: I don’t see the option to make custom requests. What’s going on?

A: Custom requests are a restricted feature, which means that you need to have at least five fans in your Fanhouse to unlock this feature. If you feel like you need this restriction lifted sooner, email us at hello@fanhouse.app.

Q: If a fan sends me a custom request, do they automatically send the payment?

A: No. You need to make a locked message with the content they’re requesting. If a creator is requesting something you are unwilling or unable to deliver, you can decline the request through DM. The fan only pays for the custom request when they unlock the locked message.

To learn more about making locked messages, check out this tutorial.

Q: What do other creators offer as custom requests?

Creators have provided services like tarot readings, dating advice, art commissions, personalized greetings, video or podcast shoutouts. Creators also use custom requests to offer their fans more personal glimpses into their lives through selfies, pictures of their pets, or outfits of the day.

Q: How should I price my custom requests?

A: Pricing varies by creator. Typically, the more effort that goes into a custom request, the higher you should price it. Here’s a sample of some offerings creators provide as custom requests:

  • Custom selfies
    • $10 for 1 selfie without makeup
    • $10 for 1 selfie with a Snapchat/Instagram filter
    • $20 for 1 selfie with makeup
    • $25 for a set of 3 selfies with makeup
    • $35 for 1 selfie with a special request
    • $65 for a set of 4 selfies with a special request
  • Custom videos
    • $15 for a video of me saying “Hi, (your name)”
    • $20 for a video of me saying a sentence of your choice (ie. a birthday message)
  • Miscellaneous
    • $15 for relationship/general advice
    • $20 for dating profile review
    • $30 for a podcast shout out
    • $45 for portrait sketch
  • Calls
    • $100 a 30 min phone call
    • $150 an hour phone call

Q: A fan asked me for something I am unable or unwilling to fulfill. What should I do?

A: Where appropriate, we recommend telling the fan that you cannot complete the request. Note that fans only get charged when they unlock the custom request; you are not responsible for providing content that you do not want to provide.

If a fan is violating your boundaries, you can block them or report them to hello@fanhouse.app.

If you have the paid message setting enabled, your fan needs to tip you to reply to you.
